This is an eye-witness drawing of the public hanging of three women accused of involvement in Paganism in Chelmsford, England, in 1589. Joan Prentis is on the right. The other two innocents are Joan Cony and Joan Upney. Many other people, mostly women, fell victim to the vicious and unyeilding fanatical prejudice which squeezed the life out of poor Joan Prentis as she danced on the end of that rope, watched in her death throes by smug self-righteous people who believed that any action was justified to 'protect' their own world-view. |

A story was set in motion that a child had been kidnapped and crucified... a short while later another rumour started concerning a boy, kidnapped as the others had been; crucified, his heart cut from his body and burned. Then a Christian fundamentalist published a document which called the public's attention to the 'wickedness' of these ritual killers. He assured his readers that they were the enemies of decent folk; that these abusers worshipped their own gods secretly and were dirty and unclean. He proclaimed that the reason people often fell into a mysterious illness when members of this cult were around was because they were poisoners and used drugs on their victims. And if anyone had doubted the rumours that it was their custom to kidnap children and sacrifice them more cases were said to have been brought to light in all parts of the country! H ow many more ritual murders did they imagine had remained undiscovered? Hundreds, perhaps thousands. These ritual abusers were immoral, lived only to indulge themselves, raped virgin children and squandered their seed in an attempt to increase their race in an obsessive attempt to overwhelm Christianity. They even Jeered at the Holy rites of the Cross which they hated and constantly worked against. To counteract these ritual abusers this Christian fundamentalist started a one-man campaign to alert officialdom and set out on a tour through the land. In every town he came to he demanded action against the killers and called for the police to root them out....
